Ca-MyrnaDrive.jpgSaturday April 22: Hearst Castle and Monterey

We decided to drive back up the coast and try for Monterey after a stop a Hearst Castle. The Castle tour was well worth it. It's an unbelievable place. The money that went into building this place is outrageous. William Randolph Hearst was quite a character. Here is my Day 6 postcard from Hearst Castle.

After almost 3 hours there, we headed back up the coast to Monterey. We are staying about two

blocks from Cannerry Row. We saw 4 Sea Otters but I didn't have my big zoom lens.

Sunday April 23 : Myrna's Birthday and checking into Pebble

Our Sunday plans of visiting the aquarium were altered a bit. Today is Dia del Nino. The day of the child. Admission was free for kids and there's all kinds of activities for kids. I have a feeling, we will skip the aquarium. We did skip it, the line up went around the block.

What we did instead is slowly do the 17 mile drive and eventually checked in to the Inn at Spanish

Bay a little early. At $33 an hour we got an extra hour to laze around the room. The view is spectacular. It's a little cool but we have the fireplace blazing with the patio door open. The post card for today is us snooping around the golf courses that I will be playing tomorrow and the next day. Note to Brian Spence, the 4th green at Spanish Hill is narrower in real life than on the Xbox, I need more strokes for our match.

Right now we are going to the fire pits to hear the Bagpiper. A tradition at 6:00 every night.

Final Day in California - In Sonoma County

For our final two nights in California we wanted to stay in one plave not too far from the airport. It's supposed to take less than 1 1/2 hours from here so we will leave early in case of traffic. We are staying in a little town called Glen Ellen Population less than 200 I am sure. There are 3 'secret' cottages in the back. It's a relaxing place to finish off the 10 days. Our room has a steam bath and a two person Jacuzzi. Myrna was not very fond of the steam bath and

the Jacuzzi might take too long to fill. We'll see. Anyway I am outside right beside our brook updating this through a wireless network I hacked into.

Since we were afraid of visiting a winery today and getting stuck there all day (and not be able to drive back), we headed for one more look at the coast. We ate in Bodega Bay (of Hitchcock's The Birds fame). The waves north of there were incredible. Then we headed into a redwood state park and up this tiny road to the top of a mountain. The car looks like it's been through hell. Here is the postcard for today, the last day. See you on Thursday or Friday at the Tartan.......

Hope you enjoyed our trip. We certainly did and it won't be over until we get home Thursday night. We are flying Executive Class (on Aeroplan), so I may have to get someone to pick us up at the airport although our car is there......
