2017 - Ontario ClubLink Golf Log and Scores

Monday August 7th - Wyndance

Major rainstorms just before arriving at Wyndance in Uxbridge. It looked like we would be washed out but the sun even came out on the 18th hole. Wyndance is very challenging, especially the greens. They are fast and unless you hit the ball very high, the ball will often end up rolling off the back of the greens in collection areas. The bunker are also major league and there are plenty of them. It wasn't an easy start to a golf week and the 18th hole proved to be a killer once again. 3 putt greens are a common occurrence here. It is still one of my all-time favourite courses but it still got the best of me.

Highlights and Lowlights

The birdie on 6 was my first good hole with a great drive and a 5 iron to 8 inches to the hole which may have gone over the hole missing the eagle.
The 2 birdies on 7 were the result of sinking 6 foot putts. Putts were 34 - 34 - 36 - 36 and that's with a few 1 putt greens. Les hit 12 out of 14 fairways which is pretty good here. Ron had 0% greens in regulation.

Tuesday August 8th - King's Riding

A beautiful sunny for us today in Aurora at King's Riding golf course. We are now at Rocky Crest resort without very good wi-fi, so I am not sure if I will be able to upload this update but if you see it I guess it worked. The pictures are another story. Seems to the working now (in the morning)

Highlights and Lowlights

King's Riding is a tough course but the greens were holding unlike Wyndance because of the huge downpours from yesterday. It was cart path only on holes 11 thru 16 because of the water run-off. The day started well for me with a birdie on the first hole, a hole that has gotten the best of me every time I had played it before. The 100 yard 5th hole was another story as I saved a double bogey with a 10 foot putt. The 2 birdies on the back 9 were the result of 2 missed approach shots but recovered with 2 chip-ins from a few yards off the green. As you can see by the scorecard below there might have been a few more lowlights that I won't mention.

Wednesday August 9th - Rocky Crest Golf Course

Today is our latest tee-off time while in Muskoka (11:15). So we got to sleep in a bit and although we are in a condo unit at the resort, we will be having breakfast at the golf course later on. We ate supper at the resort last night which was very good with excellent service.

Another great day on the course. The morning was brisk and a slight shower or two but by tee-off time the weather had brightened. By the 15th hole (around 2pm), it was very warm and muggy.

After the game, we took advantage of the locker room at Rocky Crest and had refreshing showers and were able to go out for dinner and drinks in Bracebridge without offending too many people.

Highlights and Lowlights

Ron Potter's 27 putt round was definitely the highlight of this round. Anyone that can go around this course with only 27 deserves a shout-out. Shooting 93 without one green in regulation is an achievement in itself. Rocky Crest is ranked 12th on the best public courses in Canada and deserves its ranking.

We stayed in Bracebridge overnight since both Rocky Crest and Sherwood Inn had no availability for Wednesday evening. It ended up that Bracebridge is a nice little town with impressive waterfalls. We had a good supper with plenty of Bloody Caesars to help wash it down. Maddie at Chuck's Roadhouse served us well.

Thursday August 10 - Lake Joseph Club and the Sherwood Inn

An early start this morning with a breakfast in Bracebridge and off to Lake Jo for a 8:00am round. The Lake Joseph Club is a tight course with lots of elevation changes. It's rated in the top 50 'public' courses in Canada. It's actually a resort course but it's pretty tough. Bring a lot of balls but if you go in the woods, you will probably come out with a ball but maybe not your own.

Highlights and Lowlights

The definite highlight was Les' chip in Birdie on the par 3 15th. I rained on the parade a bit by sinking a 30 foot downhill snake to match his score. My back 9 could have been one for the books if the quadruple bogey 11th hole and the double bogey on 17th didn't happen. The 11th hole got the best of the entire foursome with a total of 6 balls in the various hazards. Ron didn't lose one on this hole but laid up to save a double.

We are staying at the Sherwood Inn tonight after having lunch in Port Carling. It shouldn't be a late night since we have to be on the road at 6 in the morning for our one hour drive to the Grandview course in Huntsville.

Friday August 11th - Grandview Golf Course

Our last day on the tour. After a fairly early night, we had to get up at 5:45 for the 60 minute drive to Huntsville for our final 7:17 tee-off time at the Mark O'Meara course. We got there in plenty of time as it took a little less time than the GPS and Google Maps had predicted. Grandview is quite the golf course and the first hole greets you with a 160 yard carry over a swamp in order not to lose your first ball of the day. After that hole it starts getting harder. On our drive back home we were quite hungry as we did not have time to eat anything before our round. A stop at the Wilno Tavern was recommended to me. That was a 2+ hour drive from the golf course but well worth the wait. The Wilno Tavern serves traditional Polish fare as it is in Canada's earliest Polish settlement dating back to 1858. We ate at 3pm and made our way back to Two Mo by 8pm using the Quebec route through Shawville in order to avoid the Ottawa traffic on the 417.

Highlights and Lowlights

As you can see by the scorecard above there weren't many highlights. No birdies, probably because the greens here were probably the hardest green to putt yet, not that there were many that easy to start with.

All and all it was a great golf week with great weather. Now it will be nice to play our home (more familiar) courses again so that we can at least get a few better scores.

Stay tuned for a edited video that I will put together on a rainy day.
