Hi everyone,
Well I hope that I find everyone in
good humour and health at this time. The sun is upon us, the school year
is winding down for myself, and I am ready to start summer (as I'm sure
you are as well).
As I'm sure you all know, I was
diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2006. Just finishing university, this
was hard news to come by but I was determined from the start not to let
this disease get me down and conquer who I was from the beginning. I
felt that I needed to do something in order to make living without this
disease a possibility.
And at this point, I'd like to remind
you that I am once again putting on my fundraiser, "Pedal for the Cure",
on July 23, 2010. We will once again be riding from
Ottawa to Montreal in order to raise funds for the Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation. In the past 2 years, we have been
able to raise well over $4000. This will be our
3rd Annual Pedal for the Cure. Your support thus far has been
astonishing and we would like to call upon you again to give to such a
worthy cause.
This year, we are calling upon other
riders to join us if they want. The long distance from Ottawa to
Montreal can be daunting to some (180km) but it is empowering and
unbelievable. If you would like to ride with us, you have a few
different options;
- Ottawa to Montreal: minimum to
fundraise $100
- Hawkesbury to Montreal:
minimum to fundraise $50
- Oka to Montreal: minimum to
fundraise $25
If you plan on joining our riding
team, I would need to know as soon as possible so that
I can organize training rides as a team and all.
Diabetes is one of the leading
diseases needing support from stem cell research. There are over 200,000
Canadians living with Type 1 Diabetes and more people are being
diagnosed each day. We need to stop its attack NOW! Insulin is not a
cure; research is the key to a world rid of this chronic disease.
I've been a bit busy lately but I am
in full mode to preparing this years bike ride. If you would like to
donate to our worthy cause, you may do so by either sending cash
or a cheque (made out to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
and mail it to: Carla Hoger, 349- 27th avenue, Deux-Montagnes,
Quebec, J7R 4J8. Our bike ride is fast approaching so if you
could get your donations in and collected as soon as possible, that
would be great. Sorry for the shorter notice this year!
We are both eagerly anticipating this
event and have been completely taken aback by your support, both
emotionally and by your donations. We will keep you updated over the
coming weeks on our training and progress with new members of the team.
See you on the bike path!
Merci beaucoup pour ton générosité
et support!

P.S. As is the same in the 2 past
years, we will have a BBQ at Rick and Nora's house to
celebrate us coming in at the end of our trip. You and your family and
friends are more than welcome to join us at 349-27th avenue,
Deux-Montagnes, for some food, drinks, door prizes, swimming,
and good times.
