Marion Bernice Hurley nee Allen (Mitzi)

Marion (Mitzi) Bernice Hurley nee Allen passed away peacefully in her sleep June 6th in her 99th year. Beloved wife of William (Bill) Joseph Hurley deceased (1999). Beloved mother of Bill Hurley (Irene Baczynsky), Betsy (Rick Miller), Barbara Hurley, Bobbie (Bruce Whittington), grandmother of Alanna Whittington (Dejai Barnes), Andrew Whittington, Alicia Miller (Alex Layton) and great grandmother of Hailey Whittington and Willa Barnes.

She grew up in Saint John, N.B. where she met her husband Bill. They moved to the outskirts of Montreal to the small community of Two Mountains and raised their four children. The last 19 years she enjoyed her life at St. Patrick's Square in N.D.G. She loved good food, playing chess, bingo and watching hockey and tennis. She could discuss Canadian and American politics with the best of them. She was a very sociable person and spent many happy times at her son's pub (Hurley's Irish Pub on Crescent Street). There is a very special booth at the pub with a plaque that reads "Mitzi's corner". She will be missed.* A celebration of her life will be held at 5:00 PM on February 6th, 2021 at Hurley's Irish Pub, 1225 Crescent Street, Montreal, QC, Canada.

*
The Celebration obviously did happen and will be rescheduled when it is possible to meet again.

The following poem was written by her daughter, Barbie Hurley

“Last call” ... “For All”

Not just for a covidiot
who has never yet been
considerate
from the start ....
but for anyone seen
not doing their part

Who for some reason
has become complacent
in the second wave
of this fall season
I’ve had a crave
to make this statement

You have to admit
more were doing their bit
in the early spring
when covid hit
doing the right thing
on rules of confinement
people were just
much more compliant

While we all wait
in desperation
scientist rush to create
an effective vaccination
creating the largest
immunization
in the history of our nation

The universal fight
against this virus,
is all very bright

and inspiring ....
finally a vaccine
against corona
Pfizer, Moderna
it’s all promising

In order to execute
a roll-out distribution
a senior military was appointed
capable to dispute
as part of it’s complicated
jump-start solution

Although it’s headed-up
by an experienced operation
it’s not quite time yet
for Celebration

Until most of the population
has received inoculation
we need detailed lessons
with non conflicting sessions
in our leaders’ conversation
on behavioral education

Intention alone
is not enough
without some intervention
it’s going to be tough

We need everyone’s
full concentration
in order to not spread
contamination

So stay in your bubble
or we’ll all be in trouble
without social distancing
you won’t be convincing

The fight to control
daily confirmed infections
must not only be planned
in daily choice selections
but also be scanned
in behavioural reflections

We need your collaboration
as we approach nearer the end
of an unbelievable situation
we may never comprehend

So listen,
you know who you are
we don’t have to look too far
this must become everyone’s
mission

You must behave
it’s the only solution
it’s an actually life
you could save
this could be
your contribution
