Three Blind Mice Production at the Heritage Club
On Friday November 26 and Saturday November 27 are staging a show based on the Brothers Grimm Fairytales. This show was already successfully done in Hudson as well as Centaur Theatre (twice) for their Children's Series.  It's a great show to bring your children & grand-children to. T
he show is tailored to children, but the adults enjoy the show just as much. Click here for all the details.

Beware of the Minimum Payment
I was looking at my last MasterCard statement online earlier and there was a disclaimer at the bottom that read: The estimated time to repay the current statement balance if you only make minimum monthly payments on each due date is 33 year(s) and 8 month(s). See your Cardholder Agreement for more details. You must think that I put a lot of stuff on my MasterCard but the balance on my card was 'only' $1,894. The minimum payment this month was a mere $37 which would not be a big deal to cover, if I were to bring back my 'empties' to the 'dep'. So if I manage to scrape up enough money for minimum payments and tear up my card so I don't use it for the next 33 years, I will have this debt paid off when I am gumming my way through a piece of my cake adorned with 88 candles. As the balance goes down slowly so do the minimum payment amounts and that is why the score would be settled in 2044. It's a wonder they say that people are going deeper and deeper into debt. The basic problem with credit cards (mine anyway) is that it calculates the minimum payment at 2% of the balance (rounded down to the near dollar).
This is ridiculously low and is obviously to their advantage if someone is in bad enough financial to only pay the minimum amount or, God forbid, actually miss a payment.  While this may be good for the odd month where money is scarce, you should not make a habit using the minimum payment to manage your debt. Anyway, don't worry about me to cover this month's 37 bucks. I found some more empties under the bed.

A Proud Mother Son's On CBC Sunday
Many of you know long time Two-Mountains resident Diana Jean McHarg who lives at the Cascades. Her youngest son Trevor Goodfellow who currently resides in Canmore Alberta will be profiled on Debbie Travis' new show called All for One. The show features heroes and volunteers involved in their communities and Debbie comes in to help that person with a makeover for their house.  It doesn't always go too well as you will see in this episode. The show airs on CBC this Sunday night (November 14th) at 9pm just after Battle of the Blades. Set your PVR's but if you miss it, the show will be available online after it airs at this link. Congratulations to Trevor for making a difference and also to his rightfully very proud mom, Diana.

Ronald Capanna 1952-2010
From November 10th Gazette. Suddenly on November 6, 2010. Beloved husband of Margaret (Fung-A-Ling). Devoted son of Julia Leslie and Luigi Capanna (deceased). Loving brother to Michael Capanna (Angela) and Stephen Leslie and caring uncle to his nieces and nephews. Ron was a highly accomplished harmonica player, vocalist and songwriter. His most beautiful song was Margaret at the Beach, also the name of his solo CD. In recent years he recorded and toured with the Paul Paulin band. Ever eager to expand his musical horizons he had recently been studying Irish Folk and Classical music. A kind and gentle man considerate of others, Ron was known for his keen intellect and sharp wit. Always a joy to be with, he will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. A Memorial gathering to celebrate Ron's life will be held at Christ Church United in Deux-Montagnes ,214-14th avenue, Saturday, November 13th at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Paroisse St Agapit, Deux-Montagnes. Donations may be made to the Old Brewery Mission. Click here for his online obituary and guestbook.

Lest We Forget!
This week at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, many of us will honour Remembrance Day, also called Armistice. Years ago in the work place, a bell used to go off to remind us to have 2 minutes of silence. Unfortunately, these days we all seem too busy to even remember to stop everything for even 2 minutes to honour the men and women who gave their lives to protect our country and our way of life. 2 minutes out of over half a million minutes in a year in itself is an insignificant amount of time, yet many people don't even think to do this. Sometimes, 11 o'clock passes by without noticing. If that happens there is nothing wrong with stopping at another time as they say it's 11 o'clock somewhere. This Thursday try to think about it. Set an alarm on your phone. Add an event in Facebook. Whatever you do, take 2 and you can do whatever you want with the other 525,598 left in the year. If it wasn't for the people who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, you probably wouldn't be reading this, at least it might not be in English.
The ceremonies organized by Legion Branch 185 were held this weekend as many people would not be available during the week. Here is a link to pictures from the Saturday evening supper and the ceremonies at the cemetery and the epitaph at the Legion.

Autumn Blues Climax Done
(Friday, November 5)This is the time of the year that many people dread. The autumn blues 'depression' that come with the shortening of days and the weather getting cold. You obviously have noticed how dark it is in the morning. This Saturday before we set our clocks back, the sun will rise in Montreal at 7:41am. If you are wondering why you are finding hard to get up, that might be a factor. Even on the shortest day of the year (Dec 21) the sun will be up earlier at 7:31 (because of the time change this weekend. For me, the worst time of the autumn for the past 3 years has been the day I have put away my baby for the winter. Today is the day that I stored my convertible, a sure that even I have given up hope on a freak warm spell. Even just one more day of the wind blowing through my hair. (Note I use the word hair in the singular). You should all be happy because now that my registration and insurance have suspended for the weekend, the gods of weather will laugh at me at least one more day over the next two weeks. Last Easter weekend, the weather was perfect to take my baby out of the covers for its first jaunt of spring but it wasn't to be. Trying to reactivate my insurance on Good Friday proved to be an impossibility, even with my Catholic background. Gone was the hope of going topless for 3 of the better days of 2010.
So if you find yourself suffering from the autumn blues, remember that you can buy a big light. I am so depressed that the only light that will do it for me, is the biggest one there is, so I booked a golf trip to Mexico. Aaaaawwww, I feel better already.

S.O.M.D Grey Cup Result
In what could have been the final game in the 46 year history of the SOMD touch football league, the White team outscored the Red Team by a score of 18 to 7. The MVP of the game was Dale Rose as voted by the players. The weather was pretty miserable as a light rain was falling and the temperature was in the low single digits. Despite that, the game was well attended with 25 players enduring the elements. It was cold on the sidelines but thanks to a pot of chilli made by Gary Nixon and few shots of antifreeze, it was almost bearable. Some bared the weather a little better than others who had found refuge in a much warmer place (the Tartan Pub) for post game activities including watching the game on the big screen. Follow the SOMD link on the left for pictures. One more note- A pair of prescription glasses may have been lost at the field (or maybe the Tartan). They could have accidentally dropped in your equipment bags. Kindly check you belongings and let me know if you have found anything.

S.O.M.D. Football - Is it the End?
The SOMD touch football 'league' has been hurting for players this year. The league which has been going since 1965 with 2 of its original members still playing, had a tough time recruiting enough players to play on Saturday mornings. 'Natural' attrition, fear of getting hurt and other Saturday commitments have all taken a toll on attendance. The 46th annual SOMD Grey Cup is being held this Saturday at 1:00pm and it could be the last game ever unless something drastically changes next fall. A call has gone out to 'ancient' players of the SOMD to come back for just one game and it was answered with a lot of enthusiasm. At least 24 players, have committed to play in this milestone game. This is a record number for one game as there will be 5 players per team on the sidelines. There are some 'old' players just come out to watch the game played on the 15th avenue field and to join the celebration afterwards at the Tartan Pub. There will be a video recap of many of the past years on the giant screen at the Tartan. Anyone involved in any way with the league in the last 46 years is welcome to join the party. Just drop me an e-mail and I will send you the details. Next week, a slide show of the game and past memories will be posted at the SOMD link on the left.

Cameron Cook - 1952-2010
From the Calgary Herald. Cameron John Cook passed away on October 25, 2010 in the company of best friend, and loving wife Jean Orr. He was born January 22, 1952 in Montreal, Quebec and grew up in the city of Two Mountains. Cameron moved to Calgary as a young man with Jean, where he started his business, CJ Aluminum. Cam and Jean got married and raised their three kids in and around the cities hockey arenas and soccer fields. Cam was a rabid Habs fan and enjoyed cheering for anyone but the Flames. He loved nothing more than family vacations to Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Anyone who had the pleasure (or misfortune) of knowing Cam, is well aware of his relentless, dry sense of humour. Cam leaves behind wife Jean, daughters Julie and Stephanie, son Cameron, brother Elliot, sisters Susan and Janice (Thom) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the Foothills nephrology team, including staff on Unit 27 and 37 for their patience and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cameron's honour to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Cameron's family and friends are welcome to celebrate his life with a bottle of Bud on Friday, October 29 at the family home from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Here is the link to his online obituary and guest book. My condolences to the Jean and the family.

Chicago, My Kind of Town
Took a quick weekend trip to Chi Town to take in a show and the Bears Games. We love Chicago and got some good pictures despite some iffy weather. Here are the pictures if you are interested.

Speed Bump Craze
Many of you may have noticed that speed bumps seem to be showing up on more and more streets. If you have ever driven north on 5th avenue (into the St-Eustache portion of Two-Mountains), you have certainly encountered some of the nastiest speed bumps around. Do even try to use this street if you have any kind of low riding vehicle (read sports car with low profile tires). One of the newer speed bumps is on 26th avenue. It is quite large but I think it's better than the 5th avenue one because I don't hit my oil pan on this one. It supposedly designed to only slow you down, not stop you completely. Last week, it did more than slow down a motorists. As you can see by this picture sent to me by Geoff Bulcock, the driver of this vehicle didn't quite hit the speed bump the correct way. Since most of these speed bumps are permanent structures that can't be removed for winter, I hope that the snowplough drivers remember where they are during the first big storm or they could end up like the car in the picture.

Edwin (Eddy) Ewenson 1948-2010
More Sad News from Two Mountains, Eddy passed away suddenly last week. My condolences to the Ewenson family who sadly also lost Joyce (Eddy's mother) on the weekend. (Click here for Joyce's obituary).
From the Montreal Gazette: On October 8, 2010, at the age of sixty-two, passed away Edwin Ewenson. Son of the late Joyce and Bernard Ewenson. He leaves to mourn his son Troy, his brothers Mike and David (Jocelyne), his sisters Patricia (John) and Linda (Kevin), many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
Family will receive condolences at Complexe funeraire regional Guay, 146 rue St-Louis, St-Eustache, on Saturday, October 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayer gathering will be held at the Complexe at 8:30 p.m. the same day. Here is his online obit.

A Beautiful Fall Day in 2MO
You may have noticed the screen on the way in. The colours in the remaining wooded area of Two Mountains were a bright as ever with the sun shining into them. I went out on a picture taking tour in the afternoon and came back with a couple of good shots. Click here to view some pictures of the area. This is time of the year that a lot of birds are leaving for the winter but the ones that are staying are going to need some food. Within minutes of putting up my bird feeders for the winter, the birds started munching as you will see in the last picture.

Claude Delisle 1940-2010
One of the real nice guys of Two Mountains, Claude will be missed by everyone. He was one of the cities great volunteers and always had a smile for everybody he would meet. Condolences to the family and his many good friends.
From the Montreal Gazette: At Deux-Montagnes, on October 2, 2010, after a short courageous battle, M. Claude Delisle passed away, husband and best friend of Mme Miriam Weiss. He also leaves to mourn his children and step-children Sylvie (Mario), Nathalie (Christian), Ilana (Mark), Jonathan (Sarah), his grandchildren, brothers and sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He has left a large void in the Deux Montagnes community. The family will receive condolences on Saturday October 9 from 2 p.m. at Complexe funeraire Goyer Ltee 147 boul. Arthur Sauve St-Eustache
450-473-5934. A liturgy of the Word will be held on the same day at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the complex. Visitation Saturday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. A donation to SERCAN or Manoir St-Eustache would be appreciated. Here is the link to his online obituary.

Don't Forget - This is the Weekend
Hey 2 Mo, this is the weekend that you can put your functional garbage on the curb and have your neighbours pick it up. Starting at 9am on Saturday and Sunday, 'trading' days as they are called will be on. Anything on your front lawn (sort of) is fair game and free for the taking. This does not apply to old (and still functioning) spouses and since only functional things should be out there. Any dysfunctional family member should not be put out near the street. If by mistake you do and he/she is not taken by 6pm on Saturday, you can try again on Sunday. If your working junk is still out there on Sunday evening, you must bring it back off the curb and you have 3 options. 1) Wait for the last Thursday in October for large item pickup by the city, 2) take a nice picture of the item(s) and put them up for sale on eBay, 3) call your friends in Laval West and they pick everything up for their garage sale the following weekend (just kidding LWesters, you know you are Two Mountain's Newfies. No offence real Newfies.

Dam Water Levels Rising
With this week's rain fall you may have noticed a considerable rise in the water level both in the lake and the river. It was about time that the levels be back to normal after a record low season. There was one problem however. The people dredging the lake near the rapids were not expecting it. The entire operation got a surprise drenching and a lot of equipment that was sitting on dry land ended up underneath loads of water. The water went over the barriers they had erected to dig the channel. Geoffrey Bulcock sent me some pictures of the flooding which can be found here. I also went down there on Saturday to see the damage. The dredging operation was supposed to finish in September, I bet they wish they did. It looks like they will take a while to recover from this setback.

Cool and the Happy Gang 27th Annual Golf Tourney
Although the weather was a little nippy, the rain stayed away from the 27th Annual Happy Gang Tournament run by Ron Kesseler. 22 teams of 3 competed for the honours and the bragging rights for the year. The winners, Marc Leduc, Robert Raymond and Pierre Williams came in with a score of minus 8 to squeeze into the victory by one stroke. It was a tough day on the links as the wind blew and some teams struggled on the all important putting which wins these tournaments. A good day was had by all and we should all be back for the 28th Annual tournament on the 25th of September next year. For some pictures, click here.

Citizens' Summit Report Released
On Thursday September 23, the presentation of the citizens' summit findings was done for the English community. The 99 page report is now available on-line. Here is the basic approach that will be taken. Five committees will be formed and citizens are invited to join any of these committee based on their experience and interests. They will meet over the next year on a monthly basis to make a concerted plan for the city taking into consideration priorities and available budgets. To get all the the details including the report simply click here. It was evident in this presentation and during the June summit that the city is in a financial situation that will probably result in a municipal tax increase. Some of the infrastructures of this city are in need of repair and/or replacement and although subsidies might be in order, there will still be a bill to pay in the end. Mayor Marc Lauzon made a good point on Thursday as a 'mad' citizen pointed out that during the previous administration, the municipal taxes had not been raised in 15 years. He mentioned that the 64% increase in population at the time made it possible to increase the tax input without burdening the current taxpayers. Had the previous administration even increased the tax by 1 percent a year for everyone, the mayor pointed out that we wouldn't be sitting there discussing our city's financial crisis. The reality is that it costs more to run the city than 15 years ago and it is foolish to think that somehow municipal taxes can stay the same without either cutting services or providing really lousy ones. The basic purpose of these committees is to establish priorities and review some of the spending. Because citizens in the know should be involved in the various subjects, there may be opportunities to save money as well or at least spend the money wisely. Not many communities offer a chance for their population to make a change in how their city should run. We should give this a chance and put the negativity aside. The city can only be better for it.

WNDL Starts Season 25
The Wednesday Night Dart League starts next Wednesday (September 29th) in its new venue, the Legion. The New Tartan establishment was lacking adequate wall space to comfortably host 8 teams of 3 players so it was decided to give the Legion a try for season 25. The W.N.D.L. is not unfamiliar with the Legion as it has had a stretch of years there. It originally moved from the Marquise in 1988 when the bar had been closed down after the famous July 1st raid. Back then at the Legion, the 4 teams were playing in the small basement area until moving up to the 'grand hall' for a few years before moving back to the Tartan Pub under the new ownership of Victor Labelle. The league had gone to 6 teams then and eventually 8 as we moved to the back of the Tartan. Last Wednesday, the players draft was done and all 8 captains picked their team. For all the info on the draft, click on the WNDL link on the right.

SOMD Touch Football Needs A Few Recruits
If you are looking for something to do each Saturday morning from now until the end of October, the SOMD is now in it's 46th season and is looking for a couple of 'not too young' guys to fill out the roster. It's a friendly outing that starts at 11:00am at 13th avenue park. If you want to know what SOMD stands for, drop by for a visit and try it out.

Adesa Holds Public Auction
This Saturday (September 25th) starting at 8:30am, Adesa Montreal (situated just north of 2mo) will be holding a public auction of over 300 vehicles including cars, trucks, 'recreative' products and specialized machinery. All are welcome. For more info, here is the link.

Trading Days in Two Mountains
Don't throw it away, give it away. This is the motto of the 1st edition of Trading Days in Two Mountains on Saturday and Sunday the 9th and 10th of October (the long weekend as some of you call it). During these 2 days, the City's Environmental Commission encourages you to put your unwanted but still functional items on the side of the road so that anyone interested can just pick it up and use it. It starts at 9am so don't put your stuff out the night before. It's a garage sale where you don't need a permit but everything is free. You must pick up the things that didn't go by the end of the day. Any large items that don't get picked up must be removed and you'll have to wait until Thursday the 21st (8pm) to put them back out so the city removes them.
During the trading days, make sure that things you do not want to give away are not too near the street AND tell the kids not to leave their 'toys' on the front lawn and don't leave the keys in your clunker (or do if you want to get rid of it).

Two Mountains Citizens' Summit Results Presented
On Thursday September 23rd (Tuesday September 21st in French), the results of the June Citizen's Summit will be presented. The 60 page report will be outlined and citizens will be provided with a forum to comment on the different initiatives and their priorities. The meeting will be at the Veteran's Hall (Legion) at 7:30. If you can't make it, the report will be available online on the following day at the city website that you can reach by clicking the 2mo Site icon on top of this page. For all the information regarding the Thursday presentation, click here.

Legion Branch 185 Softball Tournament Raises Money for the Vets at St-Anne's
For the third straight year, the weather has cooperated and made the annual Legion softball tournament a great success. This year 5 teams battled it out for the honours, Branch 185 (Two Mountains), Branch 216 (Laval West), Branch 171 (Morin-Heights), Lac Barron and finally the Champions, Doug's All Star crew who handily won their 3 games. Bob Fordham did a great job organizing this year's event and had lot of help from his team of volunteers both in the tents serving food and drinks and on the field umpiring the many games throughout the day. It was the perfect day for softball and seeing old friends and making new ones. Here are some pictures.

A Better Weather Map
Many of my golf buddies depend on me to predict the weather before heading out to the links. Mike McKeown calls me Percy as in the late Percy Saltzman which is flattering although I have a better record than he had. Case in point, this Tuesday at 7am I predicted a that it would stop raining on the golf course at 10am. I was off by 5 minutes and we played a great round in dry weather. I took a weather course in college and I had book on meteorology (which has nothing to do with meteors). Anyway, for the last 15 years at least I have been doing my predictions based on the Doppler radar images from the internet and a couple of things I have observed with the jet stream. Recently, I have been using a new interactive weather map and it been really useful for me. It only shows the previous hour of precipitation but it's zoomable just like Google maps. By studying the past hour's movement, you can get a basic idea of where the rain is going. Be careful though, without that book that I read 35 years ago you could be a little off. Leave it to me if you want to be sure. You will notice that I have removed the McGill radar link on top of the page. It's been replaced with the new interactive map by Intellicast.com. You can save your location(s), so that you don't have to keep zooming back to your home turf every time you visit. The only disclaimer I would have for this tool is that it is made for the US and it doesn't seem to track more northern locations like the Maritimes, Newfoundland or even Calgary (certainly not Edmonton).
Use it with care!

LTM Football, a New Era
Starting Monday September 6th at 6:30 at the new field at PDM, L.T.M.H.S. will join the ranks of high school football. The LTM Titans play their inaugural game. It's been a long time coming, but the day is finally here. Coach Dominique Periera and his crew have been working hard raising money to make this a reality. Good luck Titans. For their full 7 game schedule click here. Update - It wasn't a great start for the home team as their opponent from Mont Laurier seemed very experienced however the team spirit was up. Despite horrible weather, there was quite a crowd there to cheer on the home town boys. Here are few pictures. As you will see, the rain and lighting were not conducive to great pictures.

41st Annual Labour Day Weekend Soccer Tournament
This weekend also marks the 41st year for another great event on Two Mountains, the annual soccer tournament. This year 124 teams are competing in different categories for the the honours. There is action at the LTM, PDM Olympia and and Central park. Come and join the fun at this national event. Here is a link to the Shamrocks' web site for schedule and results. Here are some pictures from Sunday and more from the finals on Monday.

8th Annual Santa Claus Parade Golf Tournament
The 41st Annual Santa Claus Parade will be on December 5th this year. It costs a lot of money to put on this event, so this golf tournament at Lachute Golf course is to raise some for the parade. The Happy Gang Tournament in a Month
Once again this year, Ron Kesseler is organizing his 27th annual Happy Gang golf tournament. This year it's on Sunday September 26th. The format is a 3 man Vegas and we tee-off 2 groups at a time (to keep everybody honest). The entry fee is $55 a player and there are lot's of money prizes including for some who may not score well enough to make the top 5 groups. Please contact Ron at this e-mail address ronk@2mopaul.com and tell him who your threesome will be. If you don't have a threesome, Ron will be happy to set you up with other individuals who might not have two other people to play with. Don't delay as there are limited spots.

Auberge Beaux-Reves Golf Challenge 2010
Hannes Lamothe's annual Chantecler Golf challenge is back this year on Friday September 17th. It's  a fun event with lots of prizes. The colours up north should starting by then, so the course should be very scenic. For all the information about the tournament, please click here. It's a very popular event and there are only 2 foursomes left to fill. Not the avid golfer? No problem there is a spa instead of golf option that will appeal to anyone who doesn't want to chase a little ball around.

The Dredging Continues
Making part of a lake deeper by two and a half feet is quite the endeavour. It sounds easy but if you know that the bottom of the lake is mostly solid rock then it becomes a major chore. If you want to see the latest pictures (taken from the train at over 90 k/h) you can click here. Despite the speed of the train going by, this is the best view you get of the site since a lot of the area is fenced off and inaccessible. Most windows on the train have become opaque over the years but I looked for the clearest one in the coach to take these pictures. With the new double-decker trains coming "soon", if the dredging drags on longer than the September estimate, I may get better pictures through some new windows.

Another Retirement
I am happy to announce the retirement of old Dell computer which was delivered to me on 03/03/03. It has given 8 odd years of service. Back in its day, it was a great machine that with all the peripherals (printer, flat screen UPS etc..) set me back almost $5K. The computer I am now working on has 8 times the memory (4gig), twice the original disk space (500gig) and what feels like 100 times the CPU speed. This computer cost me less than $400 with tax and shipping, and that was over 2 years ago. Why  did I take so long to retire my Dell? Because I had to important pieces of software on it that I didn't have on my 'new' one. The first one was the golf software that I use and more importantly the one I use to update my website. In the last few weeks, I was having so much trouble with my Dell that it 'inspired' to get my software running on this 'new' one. My Dell was taking up to 15 minutes to start up (from hibernate state) and when I was typing, so characters were taking 15 seconds to show up. That is one reason why I wasn't updating my site that often as it was taking so long. Now my happy readers will enjoy more frequent updates and I will be avoiding the frustration of turning on a separate PC just to update. My golfing friends might not be so happy as I will now be able to post the golf results of our outings a lot faster. Even though I had both PC's sharing the same screen, keyboard and mouse through a KMV-switch, the Dell will rest for now and just be there in case I need an important file. No more noise of that fan that was screaming in pain trying to cool down an overworked CPU. And finally no more blue screens from Windows XP that seemed to happen every time I really to get something done. I will eventually remove the disks from my Dell to make sure I have some files that I may need. Rest in pieces big boy, you served me well. Oh, did I mention it was at least 3 times the size of my other machine?

Recycling Warning
There has been a strange occurrence in Two Mountains in the past couple of weeks. There is a person that parks his car on one end of the street and walks around going into our green recycle bins. I don't mean while they are on the street but while they are up against your house. That in itself I wouldn't mind too much, except that this person is not taking out empty cans or bottles but actually taking out papers probably in an attempt at some form of identity theft. He has been reported to the police by many people but has not been found. I make an effort to never put personal papers
in the recycle bin unless they have been shredded. Even if this guy doesn't get the personal papers, the sorters at the recycle centers can always get them. This has been a public service announcement from 2mopaul.com.

I Hate To Do This
It's time to announce the Monday and and Friday LTHC Hockey start dates. This usually means the end of summer and that's why I hate announcing it. Friday hockey starts on Friday September 10th and Monday starts on Monday September 13th. This year we are still playing at the Patinoire Deux-Montagnes despite the constant rumour of the building being sold. If indeed it is sold and when the developers want to start a new project, the arena will be history. This means many leagues either folding or desperately looking for another venue that is affordable and within reasonable proximity. The Olympia Arena is a very busy place so that's not a likely place. The last game of the year last season was the successful defense of the North American cup against the Boston Boys. One little 'problem' is that no one has seen the cup since that day. If anyone knows its whereabouts drop me an e-mail.

Karaoke and Korn
Friday August 20th (today) there are two happenings in 2mo involving Korn and Karaoke. The Heritage Club is having a Corn Roast/Hot Dog and Karaoke starting at 6pm. Even if you don't sing, they do have a few singers who will entertain you. The Tartan Pub is also having one of it's monthly supper with Ribs, Corn and Tartan salad starting at around 6. The Karaoke only starts at 10 at the Tartan so singers could bounce around between events.

Canada Retains the Wyder Cup in a Squeaker
On a beautiful weekend in Bethlehem  New Hampshire, team Canada held on to their 2 point Day One lead and managed to keep their hold on the Cup for one more year. The final score was 33 - 32 and all the golfers have a story on how they could have got even half point to completely change the outcome of the match. It was once again a grand weekend at the Maplewood Resort and unlike last year the weather was not a factor. Outside a 3 minute sun shower during the Saturday matches, it was perfect golf weather. The greens at Maplewood were as diabolical has ever and gimme's were not readily handed out by anyone. Many putts from 'inside the leather' became knee knockers and more than a handful were missed. In all, 52 male golfers competed in this year's edition. On the woman's side, the American ladies retained their cup which was battled for on Saturday. Pictures are posted as well as all the detailed results using the Wyder Cup link on the left. Next year's 10th anniversary promises to be another great weekend and close battle.

The 'Nuit de la Peinture' Edition 5
For the 5th straight year, a 'bunch' of artists are getting together for a night of painting. On Saturday August 14 from 9:00pm to 1:00am, there will be a display of art as well as the creation of a 12' by 12' collaboration right on the pavement of the Olympia Arena parking lot. This year's venue has changed as in the past 4 years I believe it was held in 13th avenue park in conjunction with Family Day. This year's family day was cancelled probably due to financial restrictions. The website for the paint night is http://lanuitdelapeinture.blogspot.com/

20th Anniversary Rocky Holt Slow-Pitched Softball Tournament
This coming weekend, August 6, 7 and 8, the 20th Annual Softball tournament will take place at Olympia and Central Park. 16 teams will vie for the championship in 2 divisions. The action starts at 7pm on Friday and continues until Sunday afternoon. Come and cheer on your favorites and help raise funds for the MUHC. Jellybean's Slammin' Summer will be there on Sunday sponsored by l'Equipeur and CTV. Food and beverages will be served at very reasonable prices.
Results and Pictures: It was almost the perfect weather weekend as the temperatures were in the low 20's and the sun was shining. The rain started in the late innings of the final Division 'A' game that saw 4Korners defeat the Tartan Pub in a close game. The rain drenched the closing ceremonies and a presentation from Mayor Marc Lauzon to Margie Lavallee for her 20 years of organizing this annual softball tournament. In the 'fun' division, Bain Magique defeated Rick's DeBonis' Oldtimers in the final after the old folks (including me) went 5 and 0 the the games leading up to the finals. It was a very successful tournament with 14 teams competing for the honors.

9th Annual Wyder Cup Returns to New Hampshire
For the second straight year the Wyder Cup will be contested in the USA. Once again, the Maplewood Golf Club will be hosting our annual competition as Canada will be trying to keep its trophy on Canadian soil. Canada is leading the series 5 to 3 so the Americans have to win to have a chance to even up the win for the 10th version in 2011. This year, we have moved the weekend up one and the tournament will be held on Friday August 13th and Saturday the 14th. For more info, use the Wyder Cup link on the left sidebar.

Heritage Club 2nd Annual Golf Tournament A Big Success
Saturday July 31st was the day the everyone hit the golf course for the 2nd time to raise a bit of money for the Heritage Club. Bob Fordham rallied the troops and this year over 70 golfers took part in the event. Gary Mitchell and his crew cooked up a great steak dinner at the hall following the golf. Many sponsors donated prizes and they were distributed to everyone. The winner shot a 77 after having a bad week and struggling with his game. How do I know? Because it was me after shooting 91 and 92 earlier in the week. The closest runners-up were Mike McKeown and Mike Hurlbert with a pair of 80's. Some pictures can be found here. Thanks to all the sponsors and prize donors.

Dredging Work on Lake and River Starts
As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, the dredging of the Lake of Two Mountains to increase water flow is on its way. The entire job should be finished in September however there have been a few unexpected mishaps. A crane toppled over on the dam as it was trying to lift something too heavy. Thanks Mike McKeown for getting pictures of the toppled crane. Pictures of the water levels and some of the work can be seen here.
