Forever Young
Theatre Ignites the Christmas Spirit

The Forever
Young Theatre Company's two sold out performances at the Heritage Social Club
were just the right to put everyone in the Christmas spirit. The November 28th
and 29th shows were in 4 parts, the first and last part being a collection of
holiday favourites sung by their Victorian Choir. The first set included many
old hymns while they ended the evening with some more recent melodies. There were
many favourable comments from the audience with respect to the quality of the
singing. The middle 2 acts of the evening were the skits; Christmas With my
Friend Irma and Santa Flunks Retirement. Both were very entertaining and funny
and the costumes were something else. Some of the actors had not told their
spouses how they would be dressed, so there were some surprises in the audience.
To see some of the costumes and the action please

pictures. A full length video will be available (maybe in time for
Christmas).

School Board
Elections Coming - Meet the Candidates
Sunday November 2nd, with advanced polls open
October 26, the Sir Wilfred Laurier School Board will be holding its
elections. For all the information on the elections please click
here. Below is a text from one of the candidates, Guy Gagnon inviting
everyone to a 'Meet the Candidates' evening on Thursday October 30th.
One of the overwhelming comments that I (Guy Gagnon) have received during
this campaign is that people do not know the candidates, and in general do
not have a good grasp of the issues at stake. We have heard your comments
and as such we would like everyone to come and meet the candidates Thursday
October 30th at 7:30PM at la Maison Boisé de la Moisson at 53, 25th Avenue,
St. Eustache, QC. Both the candidates of EducACTION Jennifer Maccarone (for
chairperson) and Guy Gagnon (Ward 3) will be on hand along with several
other candidates from the neighbouring regions (Laval, Rosemère, etc). A
small presentation of our platform will begin the evening and then we will
open up the floor to questions from the public. These elections carry a
particularly high importance in assuring the continued well being of our
schools and students and the message must go out far and wide.
To ensure we have enough room and to advise of any possible changes we
kindly ask that you confirm you presence at
swlsbward3@gmail.com or on Facebook
at this link.

team poster.

A Weekend at
Notre-Dame
Last weekend (October 9-12), four of 'the guys' had
a terrific Notre-Dame Football Experience. Thanks to Mike O'Neil who met
Mike (from South Bend, Indiana) in Florida, we had access to 4 tickets to
the October 11th game between Notre-Dame and North Carolina. Mike O, myself,
Brian Rose and Gary Mac left early on Thursday morning (5am) for the 13 hour
drive to South Bend Indiana. On Friday, we took the campus tour then we
played a round of golf at a very nice municipal golf course called Elbel.
Saturday, we were off to the 3:30pm game starting at 10am at one of the many
tailgate parties in the Notre-Dame Stadium (large) parking lot. Steve
(Header) of Header Auto was hosting the tailgate and surprised us with 2
pregame field level passes. The entire experience was amazing and can't
really be described. The word Tradition comes to
mind
at Notre-Dame. All the facilities were perfect and as sparkling clean as the
Notre-Dame football helmets. I have uploaded a
few pictures
here and I will be preparing a video in the next few days.

A Great Day
for the 31st Edition Happy Gang Tournament
Ron Kesseler's Annual 3-man Vegas golf tournament
was a fantastic outing in its new location, the Glendale Golf Club. 62
golfers braved the sunny 26°C weather and battled it out in groups of 6. The
Ancestral golf course greens challenged the putters of every team except
maybe the ultimate winners, Marc Leduc's team who did the circuit with a
score of 60 which is minus 11. In second place, was the select team of Mike
O'Neil, Mike McKeown and Pimmy Gillis at -8 followed by the ever consistent
team (not) of Paul Goyetche, Bernie Goyetche and Stan Rose at -7. Two teams
tied for fourth including the rookie team of Robert Wall, Mike Nabozniak and
Rick Hoger at -6 who rallied on their last 6 holes with 3 birdies and one
eagle, a 122 yard drain on the 5th hole (their 17th). Michael Lunny took
some awesome photos which can be
found here.

Official
Opening of Benoit Charette's constituency office
Benoit Charette was elected to the National Assembly (of the province of
Quebec) in the last April 7th election. After the election, he needed to
find a office for his riding. The place chosen was the new building that
replaced the Mather's Memphis Belle building across the parking lot of the
Cinema. The office was a work in progress but most of the work was just
recently finished. On Monday, September 22nd, Mr. Charette held the
'official' opening of the new space by inviting so community leaders to
visit and having some hors d'oeuvres at the Mangiamo restaurant directly
downstairs. The offices were decorated with works by local artist Marion H.
Gérard and Benoit says that he will feature various local artist's art work
in months to come.

to take pictures in the offices themselves.
St-Jude
Elementary Principal Takes the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Christyne Legault, principal of St-Jude Elementary,
got nominated to do the Ice Bucket Challenge in late August. At the
beginning of the school year, she said she would do it if her Cycle 3
students (Grades 5 and 6) would meet 3 challenges of their own. The first
challenge was to find out all they could about ALS and prepare a
presentation with the knowledge they acquired. The second was to use this
event to raise awareness of another charity and thirdly to find a way to do
the challenge without wasting drinkable water. The students did all the
research and presented their findings and raised awareness and money for
another charity called 'Free The Children'. They put a plan together to
collect rain water which we have had plenty of in the last few weeks. They
had an alternate plan of getting lake water should September have been rain
free. The students met their part of the challenges, so on Thursday
September 18 they got to dump their collected water on Mrs. Legault. They
raised $175 for ALS and another $175 for Free The Children. In turn, Mrs.
Legault nominated 3 more people for the challenge.
video and see who else will have to get wet for charity.

Canada Day
Pictures From The Past
Back in the late 90's, before the advent of
affordable digital photography, people took pictures an had them printed in
albums. Murray Mattson took a few pictures at some Canada Days back in the
previous century (circa 1998). Bob Hodge took the album and scanned the
pictures and they are now available for your viewing. Many of the people in
the pictures are not with us anymore and the kids are all adults now.

Team USA
Gets Wyder Cup Back After 5 Year Drought
Team USA managed to hold on to their Day One 8 point lead and fought off
what could have been the greatest comeback in Wyder Cup history. Team Canada
came within one match of retaining the cup as the final score was 26 to 24,
giving the Americans their first win on home soil at the Maplewood Golf
Resort in Bethlehem New Hampshire. Team USA had not captured the crown since
the last time the event was staged in Canada in 2008 at the Cardinal and
Deux-Montagnes golf courses. This year, the weather was cool but the rain
managed to stay away for the entire three days on the course that included a
practice round on Thursday afternoon. On the ladies side, the Americans once
again dominated and kept their cup for an undetermined number of years.
To see pictures (and eventually videos) please use the Wyder Cup link on the
left. More pictures will follow as they come in from a few other
'photographers'. Next year's Wyder Cup will start a week later on August
20th, so mark your calendars.
