Team Marquise Beats Team Luna in the Lake Placid Challenge The weather could
not have been better for the 72 hole competition over this Victoria day in Lake
Placid, New York. Team Marquise under the Captainship of Kirk Duguid took an
early lead on Friday by sweeping the 10 points. Going into the last round of
individual matches, Team Luna had to sweep all 4 matches to pull out the win.
They only took 2 therefore giving the Marquise the 30 to 15 win. Last year's
competition was Team Ontario vs. Team Quebec but because of prior commitments
due to the long weekend, most of Team Ontario bowed out of the race. It was
decided that this weekend was better than the first week of June as there were
absolutely no bugs as compared to last year. The savings in bug spray alone made
it worthwhile. On top of that, the course were remarkably not crowded for a
weekend. The team were comprised of Kirk Duguid, Frank Ercolanese, Paul Goyetche
and Gary Kirbyson (Marquise) and Phil Roberts, John Hugues, Jamie Macdonald and
Tony Glezos. Tony and Paul were tied after 3 rounds and were battling for the
individual championship but both shot an 81 to tie the entire weekend with a
score of 326. Scorecards are posted .
Two Mountains' Horticulture Day -
Saturday May 26
A press conference
was held on May 15th to announce the details of the annual horticulture day that
will be held at the public works garages on 20th avenue on Saturday May 26th
between 9:00am and 3:00pm. This used to be a 2 day event but has been reduced to
one day in the last couple of years. The turnout is always really good. The
picture on the left is from the press conference and features Sonia Sénécal of
the IGA, Richard Tassé general manager of the Caisse Desjardins
St-Eustache-Deux-Montagnes and Mayor Marc Lauzon.
As usual, residents of Two Mountains will be able to pick up a choice of free
annuals, perennials and a tree sapling. There will also be the opportunity to
pick a home composter for a mere $45 as well as a rainwater recuperator for $30
in partnership of Eco-IGA. Click here to
view the entire press release. The entire day happens at Land Use
Management Department (public works) site located at 625, 20th Avenue.
Legion All Decked Out for the
Summer Well it finally happened. Members and guests of Legion Branch
185 can now sip their favourite beverages in the great outdoors while enjoying
one of the best views of Two Mountains. Many volunteers worked last weekend (May
5th and 6th) to erect this structure that will be dedicated to the late Anne
Klimas in the near future. There will also be an opportunity to sponsor one of
the 5 tables in someone's memory. As you see in the above picture, the ramp on
the left is the access to the deck. For those of you familiar with the layout of
the hall, the door is where the piano used to be.
Click here for more views of the deck that has
been a vision for a very long time and is now a reality thanks to Danny Klimas
and the many friends who did a fine job in record time. More news - The dedication of the deck will be on Saturday June 9th
during a steak supper starting at 5:30pm. The price will be $10 and tickets must
be purchased at the bar before June 4th. As far as the dedication of the
tables and chairs for anyone's memory, A memorial plaque will be made with the
names of the veterans, members or family members. The maximum amount to donate
will be $50 but if if more people join in, the price could drop when enough
money has been raised. Please sign up at the bar, you have until June 9th to
register for the memorial plaque.
Jeudi Show Raises $6.500 for Agapé Excerpts
from the press release: The City of Deux-Montagnes and the Agapé
organization are very pleased with the great success of the 2012 edition of the
Jeudi Show, where sixteen singers presented high grade performances on May 3, at
the Grand Théâtre Olympia. The Deux-Montagnes’ regional singing competition
enabled $6,500 to be collected and given to Agapé Deux-Montagnes, a charity
organization that assists people in need in the region.
'It was a real pleasure to see the work of these up coming artists. They can be
proud of themselves, especially since the money raised by this event will
provide significant support for several families,' underlined the Reverend Cathy
Hamilton, president of the Agapé organization.
At the end of the show, the members of the jury, composed of Martin Piché,
Robert Langevin and Claudine Bergeron selected the three winners of the evening.
Third place was given to the young and talented Gabriel Lacombe who interpreted
Feeling Good by Micheal Bublé. Second place was awarded to Marilyne Dubé, who
presented a captivating performance of Nella Fantasia by Sarah Brightman. And
lastly, first place was granted to the Deux-Montagnes couple, Émilie Gilbert and
Daniel Lortie, who dazzled the audience and the judges with their interpretation
of the play À libérer by Dany Bedar.
'The Jeudi Show features talented artists and it’s always a pleasure to
discover them. The Jeudi Show, is a show where the local and regional up coming
artists can be presented in a stimulating professional situation', stated Marc
Lauzon, the mayor of Deux-Montagnes. The Jeudi Show
has this page on Facebook.

Mike McKeown - Hole in One on the
Par 17th at Lachute #1
As you saw by my entry screen, on Monday May 7th, Mike hit the perfect 4 hybrid
that sailed 190 yards into the hole on the 17th hole at Lachute. Mike was
playing 2 over par after a disappointing bogey on 16 but quickly recovered those
2 shots with one swing on the 17th. He almost broke par on the last hole but his
putt came up 6 inches short. The weather was perfect and so was the round for
Mike. You can see the scorecard and pictures by clicking on the Latest Golf link
on the top right side of this page. This was Mike's 3rd hole in one and the
second that I have witnessed. Congrats and many more.
Congratulations to Newlyweds
Amanda and Bill Amanda Wall, daughter of Sharon and Fran Wall of our LTHC/Wyder
Cup Boston connection, married Bill Barnes on the weekend in Walpole,
Massachusetts. It was a great wedding and I have posted some pictures of the
event along with our trip to Rhode Island and Boston before the wedding.

community heritage among young people through photography and to bring together
several subjects such as history, arts and communications, as well as French.
Lake of Two Mountains High School is proud to exhibit the work done by its
students in collaboration with the Deux-Montagnes Public Library. For more

Our Lake Last Week No one can deny that we have had a great spring. There has
been no snow on the ground since mid March and we broke many temperature records
along the way. The only problem is that the last few days have basically wiped
those memories away. Fortunately, we didn't get the snow that Ottawa and Quebec
City got recently but it has been chilly. The picture above was taken last
Thursday at the bottom of Crescent street. It's just a reminder that better days
are ahead. We were spoiled with an early spring but it will get better very
soon, but don't plant your flowers just now.
The picture of the water above reminded me that last year I put together a slide
show of various pictures of water in many of it's forms. I have updated with
some new pictures for the last year. If you have a few minutes to relax and sit
back, you may want to take a look. For the best results, use the slideshow
option and it's better with sound.
Click here for the album. If you are using an
iPad the slideshow option will probably not work as iPads do not support Flash.

Our thoughts and prayers got out to Pauline and the family.
The
April/May Express is Available Online Two Mountains' bi-monthly newsletter is available. You can
automatically register your e-mail address to receive notification on the
Express by going to the Deux-Montagnes using the link above. If you want to
access the English version online, simply click on the picture of it on the left
side. It takes a little while to load if your internet access is not fast, but
it will appear. There is a lot of information in this issue. One piece that
doesn't thrill me the dates for picking up 'green residue'. Here is the quote:
Collection will take place every other Monday, from May 9th to October 10th
inclusively, between 7 am and 6 pm in all residential areas. Residue must be
placed in clear plastic bags. This means the first pickup would be May 14th.
OK, this year might be special but most people have raked their yards by now
and lots of people haven't used their 'normal' garbage to get rid of leaves and
branches. I have had bags ready for more than two weeks. If they don't get
picked up for 6 weeks, it's a little bit ridiculous. October 10th is also a
little early to stop this collection. The leaves around my place are still on
the trees on November 1st. Last year, the Green residue was picked up well into
November, so I am not sure why they are stating October 10th. After all we were
playing golf until Dec 5th. UPDATE: Today (Thursday April 19) all the bags of spring cleanup were
picked up along our street. I guess it's part of the 3rd Thursday of the month
bulk waste. I guess I don't understand the whole 'Green' residue thing.
Getting to Know Our Communities Day On Saturday April 21st between 10am and 4pm, there will be a
information day on the English Services that are offered in the MRC of
Deux-Montagnes. It is an initiative of the 4Korners Family Resource Centre
supported by the CSSS Deux-Montagnes(Centre de santé et de services sociaux du
Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes) and Health Canada. There will be 17 information kiosks
set up to make you aware of what is available in our own backyard. Refreshments
will be served. For all the information on the day, go to
this website or contact Sylvia at 450 974-3940.
Picture This As many of you know, I take a lot of pictures. I just did a
'Properties' on my Pictures folder and I had 87,996 pictures in 675 folders.
They use up 220gigs of the 260gig drive that they are stored on. I was far from
an early adopter of digital photography as I only bought my first digital still
camera in 2003. I am on my 6th camera in the last 9 years. I have gone from
compact underwater cameras to mid range digital SLR's and I am pleased with the
results of our latest Nikon Coolpix that we had to buy on our last trip since
the SLR lens was producing poor results. The focusing was off and the lens has
to be sent back to the maker on its 6 year warrantee. Poor results are not
always due to a mechanical issue however and that is the reason I am writing
this piece. I have noticed that on Facebook many pictures are poor. Some of them
can be attributed to low quality phone cameras but some were taken by cameras
with fairly good resolutions. I recently inspected someone's camera because they
were having a little problem with the automatic lens cover that opens and closes
as the camera is turned on and off. While trying to fix this I noticed that the
lens itself was smudgy. I took a quick picture and then cleaned the lens with a
rubbing alcohol dampened (not wet) cloth and took the same picture. You can see
a real difference and in some lighting situations you could even see a more
dramatic improvement.
Take a look at these before and after pictures
then take a look at the lens on your camera. Its really important to clean your
lens often, especially on underwater cameras as there is often a residue left on
the lens after using it under water. Specks of dust on the lens usually won't
degrade pictures that much. The worst culprit is taking a camera to the beach or
pool and accidentally touching the lens with fingers oily from suntan lotion.
Give it a try and may make your pictures shine even more.
Legumax, A New Fruit/Vegetable
Store with European Flavour I recently visited the re-opened fruit and vegetable store at
the edge of Two Mountains on Oka road (near the CLSC). I was pleasantly
surprised. The entire store has been revamped under the new ownership. The
displays are very appealing and I found the prices are very competitive. There
is also a small pastry shop and bakery. Along with the fruits and vegetables are
cheeses and many specialty items from Europe.
Take a look at this slideshow of the store and
you will see for yourself. Better still, drop in for a look and talk to Moe or
Ilgar. And yes they are open on Easter Sunday.
Lost

Paravie Launches Kangoo-Jumps for
its Fitness Program Glenda Esguerra, owner and certified personal trainer of the
Paravie Training Zone on Oka Road is pleased to introduce a new fitness concept
to Quebec, the Kangoo-Jumps boot. This boot has caught the world by storm but
had yet to surface in Quebec. These training aids, renamed Kanga-Saut for
Paravie, are 'bouncy boots' which make for a more interesting way to keep
active. They absorb up to 80% of the stress on the knees compared to running
shoes.
To help launch the new classes which will start in April, Glenda invited Moses
'Eagle' James to give a few trial classes on April 1st. Moses, an Olympian
and former World Boxing Champion, is a master trainer of Kangoo-Jumps. For all
the information on this new training program please consult the Paravie website

Two
Mountains Signs Speed Bump Deal This week, the city of Two Mountains signed a landmark deal
with Dos D'ânes of Trois Rivieres with a commitment to have the company install
approximately 100 speed bumps on the streets of the city. The targeted areas are
near schools and playgrounds. At just $600 apiece, the total cost of the project
will be around $60,000 which the city says it will get back by ticketing people
trying to avoid the streets with the most speed bumps. When asked if these will
cause a problem to snow removal in the winter, the makers recommends leaving
more snow on the streets which could save even more money in snow removal costs.
The installation of these new silent policemen should start in early April and
be complete by the end of May. Only 50 of the locations have been predetermined.
The other 50 will go in front of the houses of the first 50 people call the city
to tell them that cars are travelling too fast on their street. Some of the top
complainers will be allotted 2 for cars coming from either direction. Obviously,
by now you realize that today is April 1st. Happy A. F. Day
Scott Fordham at the Juno Awards
Don't
forget to watch the Juno Awards on Sunday (April 1st) at 8:00pm. The opening
medley by Anjulie will have dancers, which is the first time dancers are
appearing on the Juno's. Not just any dancers either. Two
Mountain's native, Scott Fordham will be the choreographing the number with his
dance troupe. Set your PVR's. Get out your VHS tapes. It should be a good one.
Congratulations to Scott for this achievement of national exposure.
Walk-O-Thon for the St-Eustache
Hospital Foundation On Friday March 30th at 1pm, the city of Two Mountains, in
association with the staff and students of St-Jude School, as well as members of
the 4 Korners 5/30 Challenge will be raising money for the St -Eustache Hospital
Foundation. It starts at 1pm with registration followed by a walk (at
1:30pm)from St-Jude School to the Veterans Hall. At the Hall there will be a
group Zumba session (at 2:00pm). Following the Zumba session the walk will make
its way back to St-Jude School. A modest entry fee of $5 per adult and $2 per
child will be collected. Come and get a little exercise and help out a worthy
cause. UPDATE - This event raised $1000 for the foundation.
Click here for pictures and video. This walk
was also to raise awareness of a 'Teledon' to be held at Olympia Theatre on
Friday April 27, 2112. It will be aired live on Videotron's Channel 9 (Vox) and
the target is to raise $100,000 for the foundation.
Congratulations To Mikael Kingsbury Two Mountains own, Mikael Kingbury made history on the men's
Freestyle Ski World Cup circuit. He finished with 13 podiums after 13 events
including 5 straight number ones to start the season.
Check this city link for the details.
Contrary to Rumours, Easter is
April 8th (not 12th as originally posted, why did someone only
correct me 3 days later, Thanks Brian) If
you have not seen the correction in the Two Mountains Express and you have a Two
Mountains calendar, Easter was wrongly indicated as being April 22nd. Easter
this year can easily converted by simply changing the E to an M which means the
Masters champion will be crowned on that day. Not to be sacrilegious, but
will Tiger rise from his majors drought on Easter Sunday. Coincidently, he was
33 when his life was abruptly changed by the swing of a club. After his win at
the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he is now the favourite to take the green
jacket. I wouldn't put too much money on it because there are lots of players
eyeing the prize. It should be a good one and it may be worth altering your
Easter supper plans if you are a golf fan.
On another golf note, Scott Martin was back in town last week. Many friends got
to see him and pose with the flag from the 18th hole at the Puerto Rico Open
that was won by George McNeil while Scott was caddying for him. It was Scott's
first first place finish on the PGA tour.
Click here to see the pictures. The 18th hole
flag is a traditional reward for the winning caddie, oh yah and 10% of the
winners payday. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean a trip to the Masters for Scott
for two reasons. One, the Puerto Rico Open is considered a qualifying tournament
for exemption into the Masters and two, George McNeil wants to have two caddies
alternate from week to week. This means, Scott will be on the bag at Hilton Head
the week after the Masters. There are still new episodes of the Caddie Show
hosted by Scott. They are posted every Thursday
on this link.
Last
of the Victory's Posted and Old Two Mountains Crests I have posted the last of the Victory's, 16 in all. The link
is on the top right. If you have any old Victory issues that you would like
posted just let me know and I will be happy to include them in the collection. I
would have to borrow them for a few days to process them. I would prefer full
editions if possible. Also, a few years ago I had posted a few crests from old
Two Mountains sports teams like the
ones in this link.
If you have any of these and you want to share them in an album,
I am starting an album with a collection of these. You can send me pictures of
them or I can arrange to take the pictures myself as I do with the Victory.
Whether they are separate or on an old jacket that you haven't got around to
throwing out, you can take a picture of them and send them to me. The crest on
the right was from the Wednesday Night hockey league from the mid 70's. When I
was 'forced' to part with it 10 years ago, I took a picture of the crest. The
picture takes up less room than the jacket that seemed to shrink quite a bit
since the 70's. On the left, is a crest from Barney Rooney from the Cedarview
Curling Club of 1963. To see the album with more crests, many of them from Geoff
Bliss, please

St Patrick's
Day Pictures
As the Irish would say, this
past weekend was just GRAND. Sunday was especially great with a high of 23
degrees recorded. Not sure if it was a record for the date itself but definitely
the best weather EVER for the Parade. People were actually more comfortable on
the shady side of Saint Catherine street. I have posted 3 photo albums already,
Squidjigger
Friday,
Fitzmorris Saturday and
Parade Sunday.
There is a sampler of the entertainment from Emma and Mike's Saturday festivities and
parade.
Help A Two Mountaineer Go to Space Sean Griffin is a PhD candidate at McGill University.
He grew up in Deux-Montagnes, and only recently moved away to get closer to
work. His entire life, he’s been working towards a career in Space Science. He
spent years working at the Cosmodome teaching about the wonders of the cosmos.
He does research in astrophysics now: he works on the VERITAS experiment, a
gamma-ray observatory near Tucson, Arizona. In a nutshell, it means that he gets
to work with and maintain giant telescopes and look at really cool things in the
sky. He recently completed his Master’s degree after designing a new kind of
camera to explore parts of space never seen before.
He is participating in a Mars simulation, too. He’s going to be the Chief
Engineer for the Mars Desert Research Station's Crew 116. This means that for
two weeks, he will live and work in an environment that simulates the surface of
Mars: Space suits when you go outdoors, small living quarters, limited food and
water. How cool is that?
His passion for this field allows him to do public outreach with the
Astrophysics group at McGill. He loves being able to share his passion with
others and get them interested and motivated in such a fantastic field. This is
why he helps organize “Star Parties” on the roof of the Physics Department so
that people can come look through the telescope there, and public lectures so
people can hear about the great research that’s being done in astrophysics.
Right now, he’s participating in a competition to win a free trip to space, a
competition hosted by Metro News. Judges will be polling the applications with
the most votes, so you really can help him win a trip to space! Because of what
region he’s applying in, there is very little competition. In fact, he’s in the
top three already, but needs a lot of help to get to Number 1.
To help out, you don’t need to sign up. Just go to
this link and click ‘voter’.
That’s it. No signup, no forms, nothing. Just vote. Use your phone, your laptop,
your tablet, anything! You can vote once per machine per day, and the contest
is now over.
You can help him accomplish his dream of getting into space.
AND Help a Two Mountaineer
Become a Model for Garage
The clothing company Garage is on a model search and one of our local ladies,
Jenna Robinson, is in the hunt. You can vote until April 2nd and you have to be
on Facebook to do so. You first have to 'Like' Garage by going
to this link. Once
that is done, you can go
to this link every day and vote for Jenna. This should be her entry. If you
see more than one entry simply pick her from the list and then vote.
